Peppa Pig will help season highlight go with a swing at Fontwell: preview and tips

The meeting celebrates the racecourse’s figure-of-eight layout - unique in the jump-racing world - with eight races and a wide range of off-track entertainment.

The first race is at 2.10pm with the last off at 5.50.

Entertainment is geared up for youngsters and includes a funfair, pets’ corner, bouncy castles, face painters and a Kids Love The Races roadshow.

Popular children’s characters Peppa Pig her brother George will be making personal appearances throughout the day.

Gates open at midday and children get in free.

Fontwell officials hope it proves the latest in a series of successful big days this year. They’ve done well with the weather and crowd sizes at most of this year’s feature events, mostly recent Ladies’ Evening, when 5,000 enjoyed an evening of racing and live music.

Fontwell’s last meeting brought a decent-sized crowd through the gates for a sunny afternoon of action last Thursday.

The racing highlight was a couple of victories - admittedly both on market leaders - by Tony McCoy.

He was first home on 5/6 favourite Bold Raider, trained by Jonjo O’Neill, in the Malcolm Hairy Roberts Memorial Novices’ Handicap Hurdle and followed up on board 4/11 favourite Sugar Hiccup in the Chancellor’s Services For The Thinking Punter Handicap Hurdle for handler Jim Best.

Biggest-priced winner of the day was in the Chancellor of The Formchecker Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, won by 20/1 shot Lucys Girl, ridden by Tom O’Brien.
