Regis gymnasts reap benefit of 2012 Olympics legacy

Gymnasts from Regis Gymnastics have come home from recent competitions with an impressive haul of medals and seven new Sussex champions.

The Sussex novice and intermediate floor and vault competition saw some of the club’s development gymnasts in action. Seven-year-old Lacey Morgan won the shield for the novice category with team-mate Hayley Evans second.

Rosie Gracey took an impressive bronze in her intermediate category in a very large field, and Hannah Booth also took a silver medal in her first competition.

The gymnasts competed at Uckfield Gym Club’s invitational competition. Evans added a gold medal to her tally, and five-year-old Frank Clark, a development gymnast with great potential for the future, performed a stunning vault to win his category.

Long-standing squad gymnasts Rosie Capper and Elinor Haines scooped gold and bronze in their event.

The club’s top-level gymnasts competed at the prestigious Sussex championships in Crawley, having qualified for the event through previous competitions.

Johan Keijser-Petch, Bethany Dugdale, Eve Hoskison, Stanley Freshwater and Madeleine Russell all won their categories, with silver medals for Annie-Rose Mitchell, Dulcie Langley and bronze medals for Molly Wilby and Lily Robinson.

Willem Keijser-Petch, 11, became Sussex champion in the highest-level floor and vault category.

The club have recently celebrated one year since the first grants for developing their dedicated facility were awarded.

Director Anna King said: “The effects of the grants have been incredible – everyone has improved so much now that they can train on the best equipment and in nicer surroundings, and we are really enjoying seeing so many happy gymnasts.

“Many of these grants came as a result of the 2012 Olympics, and this is an excellent example of its legacy.”
