At their club championships, a fun competition for gymnasts of all levels in the club to showcase their skills, nearly 70 gymnasts from age three to 18 took part. The event was the first to be held at their new Durban Road facility.

The club took seven gymnasts to the regional novice and intermediate floor and vault championships in Guildford in December and came away with an impressive haul of three medals and two ribbons.

Katy Jones performed brilliantly in her debut competition to take sixth place in her category and Daisy Thompson scored the highest floor score in her group. Her margin was enough that even a mistake on her vault still kept her in fourth place overall.

Regis’s young squad of boys dominated their 2006-born novice B category with Oliver Collins, James Carmichael and Stanley Burgess taking first, third and fourth place respectively.

The club have also been delighted to learn two of their funding applications have been approved.

They have been awarded £11,000 from British Gymnastics and the Sussex police and crime commissioner to expand their very popular parkour and free running programme, and a further £25,000 from West Sussex County Council’s social enterprises fund to make much-needed improvements to their training centre.

Head coach Anna King said: “The year 2014 was incredible year for Regis. We are so pleased to have been able to demonstrate to funders that, as a club and a business, we are a force to be reckoned with and are already providing great benefits to Bognor.

“We are awaiting the outcome of some other large funding bids, and this greatly strengthens our position”.
