RUGBY: LIttlehampton start with a defeat

LITTLEHAMPTON Rugby Club got their Sussex League Division 2 West campaign off to a poor start with a 15-0 defeat at home against Midhurst.

In the first half, Scott Elliott was in support of a Littlehampton break, when he received the ball and was knocked out from a tackle.

The game was stopped for 25 minutes and the scrum-half was taken to hospital but fortunately was fine and later discharged.

Bruce Brogen went to scrum half, and the game continued in a very tight fashion, with both teams locked into the game.

Midhurst did, however, break the deadlock when they went over in the corner before half-time.

After the break, Billy Johnstone took over at scrum-half and the Littlehampton forwards began to take the game back to Midhurst, as they had one attempt held up and another disallowed.

Midhurst then scored again after a quick tap penalty, but failed to convert.

Despite Littlehampton's consistent attacking efforts, they could not break down the Midhurst defence.

And the visitors managed to run in another try in the closing stages.

Littlehampton face an away trip to Horsham 2nd on Saturday.
