Southwater racer Jolyon looking strong ahead of GP2 season

Southwater racer Jolyon Palmer began his on-track preparation for the 2014 GP2 Series in style by posting the fastest time in this week’s official test at the Yas Marina facility in Abu Dhabi.

This was Jolyon’s first outing with the DAMS team since announcing his switch to the Le Mans-based squad last November.

The 23-year-old was fast from the off, setting the best time on both of the opening two days. He also completed an extensive programme for his new team, including qualifying runs, pit stops and race simulations.

Jolyon is one of the favourites to win the championship this season after claiming two feature race victories for the Carlin squad in 2013.

Speaking enthusiastically following the test Jolyon said: “We had quite a varied plan, with qualifying, long runs, practice starts and a new tyres as well.

“Everything is looking good at the moment and I’m really enjoying working with DAMS. Now we are focusing on Bahrain and some new challenges.”

Jolyon and the team now head to Bahrain for the next test on March 19 to 21 ready for the first race of the season at the same venue in April.
