Jamie McGuigan will bid to become the new ICO Super Welterweight English K1 champion when he takes on Jamie Clarke in Barnsley on Saturday July 5.

McGuigan already boasts the highly prestigious IKF Light Middleweight Southern Area title and the ICO Super Welterweight Southern Area title - which he has achieved in style.

He has also beaten his opponent in Hastings last year, but Clarke has had many fights since then and holds two World Championship gold medals, as well as an ICO Northern Area title.

McGuigan has been training hard under Fighting Tigers head coach Phil Eaton and K1 coach Luke Read with gruelling sessions from conditioning coach Andy Chambers and his sponsor Raw Instinct Gym under the watchful eye of Sue Kennedy, who is regarded as one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the UK today.

McGuigan started training at the Fighting Tigers Gym in March 2013 and from day one the coaches saw immediate potential. The former county standard footballer brought all the qualities the Tigers look for in a future champion.

Fighting Tigers owner/coach Andy Chambers said: “He had done a few sessions elsewhere and picked up some bad habits, but we come to expect that when people join.

“What was clear about Jamie from day one is that he had the heart to succeed. We can teach him how to fight, but what we cannot teach is desire to win - Jamie has that in abundance.

“He is all heart and come July 5 we are confident that we will have the new ICO Super Welterweight English K1 champion representing our ever-growing stable.”

Tickets for the title fight are available from the Fighting Tigers Gym, where all newcomers are entitled to a week’s free training. Call (01424) 532377, email [email protected] or find them on Facebook.
