WILES GETS ANOTHER THREE

A POTENTIAL banana-skin for Southwick Hockey Club was avoided on Saturday, but they saw off their Sussex Premier basement visitors Brighton fourths 8-0 at Kings Manor.

Brighton made all the early running and it took Southwick 15 minutes to take charge of the game. Kieran Smith started the scoring, then Lee Wiles collected the ball on the halfway line and ran at Brighton across the D to plant a reverse shot into the corner of the net.

At half-time, a few changes were made to the line up, pushing Wiles up into his familiar position of centre-forward, Lee Clarke as centre-half, and various other positonal switches.

This proved the turning-point. Clarke was inspirational, scoring two goals himself, and Wiles scored a further couple to take his league tally to 33. Rob Lowe scored a great goal on the reverse into the roof of the net. And Jamie Hendricks capped another fine display up front with the eighth goal.
