Will Palmer claims record F4 Championship points haul

The Southwater racer won two out of the three races and broke the F4 record for the most amount of points scored during a single race weekend.

“It’s been an amazing weekend,” Palmer enthused afterwards. “The win in race one was great and to get a second win on the same weekend is absolutely fantastic.”

The 17-year-old HHC Motorsport driver qualifying on the front row for the first race, just 0.004 seconds away from pole sitter George Russell.

Palmer then put in a superb drive to take his first main season F4 victory, fighting back from third place to win the ten-lap race by more than three seconds, setting the fastest lap in the process.

The second race of the weekend took place on Sunday morning, the grid order being the top-eight finishers from the first race reversed.

Palmer once more showed his fighting qualities by climbing from eighth to fifth at the chequered flag to bank more crucial championship points.

Having set the fastest race lap of the weekend, Palmer started from pole position for the final race of the weekend.

He converted this to his second victory of the weekend with a commanding drive, despite having to deal with an early race safety car and late pressure from team mate Sennan Fielding.

Palmer’s HHC Motorsport team became the first to lock out all the podium positions in an F4 race, with Palmer leading home team mates Sennan Fielding and Raoul Hyman to cap a remarkable weekend.

Palmer secured 86 points from the three races, an F4 record, to move into third place in the championship standings, just 31 points off the lead.

“I have to say a huge thanks to the team,” Palmer said. “HHC gave me a fantastic car for this weekend and for the team to get a 1-2-3 finish in the last race is a massive achievement.”

Palmer is back in action on July 18/19 at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit. “I’ve been getting stronger at each round and Oulton Park is usually a good track for me,” he added.
