Yates power is the new Worthing springboard

"THE PHONEY war is over: now we go to Guildford." Worthing RFC rugby chief Ian Davies sounded the warning before preparing his squad this week for the start of the season his club hope will end in their gaining National League status for the first time.

After five warm-up games, and beaten only by National League Southend, whom they still outscored five tries to four, Worthing on Saturday will visit the Guildford team still rising from the ashes of defunct National League Guildford & Godalming at the ground of the former Old Guildfordians.

Worthing's chairman of senior rugby, Dick Mowbray said: "I think it could be an incredibly exciting season, from what we have seen in these pre-season games against Winchester, Southend, Tun-bridge Wells, Dorking and Chingford on Saturday."
