She said: “When I was five years old my parents moved with me and my three sisters to Record Road in Emsworth, which was to become their ‘forever home’.

“The turn of the century house and garden needed a lot of work, nearly all of which was carried out by parents themselves; working most evenings and every available weekend!

“One Sunday afternoon whilst clearing out the old Anderson air raid shelter which was still standing in the Edwardian garden, my dad came across a poster for the Emsworth Horticultural show dated 1961, the poster was pinned onto a wooden board and showed that a previous owner of our family home had been one of the organisers of the show in that year.

“As the poster was is excellent condition and contained a lovely reference to the history of our property my parents had it framed and it has hung on my mum’s kitchen wall ever since.

“Visiting the Emsworth Horticultural Show was one of the highlights of our summer each year and became a family tradition, one which my sister’s and I have continued with our own young families.

“This year is particularly special to me however as I have been given the great honour of taking over as the Arena events manager.

“I am really enjoying being involved in this local and very well known event.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed for sunshine as we have lots going on in the arena from birds of prey, stunt cyclists and the family favourite Punch and Judy.

“As I type this in my parent’s kitchen looking up at that old poster we found nearly 30 years ago, it seems strange to think that someone else may have sat right here, 55 years ago making plans for the exact same event!

“The first Emsworth show was in 1919. After 97 years the show is still popular and I would love to be involved with it’s centenary in a few years time.”

This year’s Emsworth Show is set to take place on Monday, August 29, from 10.30am until 5pm. It will be hosted at the Recreation Ground at Horndean Road in Emsworth.
