St Wilfrid’s ‘disappointed’ at Bosham objection

The parish’s planning committee decided to object to the planning application at a meeting last week.

The hospice is applying to Chichester District Council for permission to build a new £12m building at Oakcroft Nursery, in Walton Lane.

The hospice said today (July 7) it was ‘disappointed’ to hear of the parish’s decision and was already working towards resolving the issues raised.

“We are taking further advice from our specialist advisors and will be submitting details to Chichester District Council shortly on how we can overcome these concerns,” said the project’s architect David Seaman.

Alison Moorey, chief executive of the hospice, added: “While we are very disappointed to hear that the parish council has decided to object to our plans, we have been heartened by the warm responses from many of our supporters in Bosham along with many local residents, who do support our exciting plans.

“We hope Bosham will become home to an immensely important local organisation that benefits the whole district and we look forward to delivering the high-quality specialist care the hospice is known for and to better meet the needs of our patients and their families in the new St Wilfrid’s.”

The hospice described the current area of land as an ‘unsightly and unused piece of land covered with derelict greenhouses’.

“The new hospice building – whose design will be sympathetic to the architecture of the locality - will be set back from the road and surrounded by attractive planting, transforming the site and approved by the immediate neighbours,” said a spokeswoman.

“St Wilfrid’s Hospice is very much looking forward to being part of, and working with, the community of Bosham.
