The 65-year-old man died in hospital on Friday after sustaining a serious head injury in the incident in Florence Road two days earlier.

Signatories are asking for zebra or pelican crossings in and around Florence Road, particularly around the park area, which is used by many families with young children.

Police said the injured man was flown by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, after emergency services were called just before 11.30am.

The driver of the red Kia Venga, a 77-year-old man from Bognor Regis, and his wife, 83, were unhurt, police added.

Witnesses are still being sought. Contact police by emailing [email protected] with information or call 101 quoting Operation Pincushion.

The petition can be signed online at under {‘We want to cross safely across Florence Road Chichester’|} by Florence Park Community Group.
