Patricia Kemp, who was wife of former Bishop of Chichester Eric Kemp, has died, the Diocese of Chichester confirmed today, Friday, August 19.

A statement on the Diocese website said: “Bishop Martin has asked that parishes remember Pat and her family in their prayers in the days and weeks ahead.

“Bishop Eric and Pat were married in 1953.

“She was the daughter of Kenneth Kirk, renowned moral theologian and bishop of Oxford, and theirs was described in a Guardian obituary of Bishop Eric as “a lively union of complementarities.” They had five children.

“During Bishop Eric’s time as Bishop, Pat supported him in many and varied ways and was often to be seen in the background quietly listening and talking to people in communities across the Diocese.”
